The new UKCA Mark
Due to the UK leaving the EU, starting on the 1st of January 2021, the new UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) marking should be used in place of the CE mark for Vianord systems being sold and installed in England, Scotland and Wales. CE marking will continue to be necessary in Northern Ireland.
The UKCA marking will indicate that a Vianord placed in England, Scotland and Wales markets meets the UKCA Marking requirements.
Vianord will be responsible for affixing the UKCA mark to the machines, which is the same principle as for CE marking.
Differences between UKCA and CE marking
Many of the differences between the two systems are administrative in nature and reflect that UKCA only applies in the England, Scotland and Wales and only requires information in English. Other differences relate to the separation of UK conformity assessment bodies from the EU Notified Body System, but that does not impact Vianord; at least for the time being.
The scope of products covered, technical requirements (essential requirements, standards) and conformity assessment procedures, may change in future but initially be alike.
UK Declaration of Conformity
The UK Declaration of Conformity will be provided by Vianord and will remain available to market surveillance authorities on request.
The information required on the Declaration of Conformity will be largely the same as what is currently required on an EU Declaration of Conformity and should include:
- Business name and full business address
- The product’s serial number, model or type identification
- A statement, stating the business takes full responsibility for the product’s compliance
- The Relevant UK legislation (instead of EU legislation) with which the product complies and UK designated standards (rather than standards cited in the Official Journal of the European Union)
- Business’s representative’s name and signature
- The date the declaration was issued
Please note that the UKCA mark is being phased in from 1st January 2021 to replace the CE mark in England, Scotland and Wales, with the CE mark remaining temporarily valid to ease the changeover.
